For instance, our miraculously supplied appliances. Our first house-mates had a fridge, washer & dryer, so we just used theirs. When they moved out we planned a Saturday for them to come back and pick up their appliances, giving us a month or so to find new ones. Well, we prayed and searched, and I put in a prayer request at church. But the days went by with no success at finding appliances.
Then, on Thursday (just 2 days before our fridge, washer, and dryer would be taken away), I got a knock on my door. I opened the door to find Wes from the college and he said, “Hey Mate, any chance you need a washer or a fridge?” YES! We’ve been praying for those. “Perfect, we’ll bring them by tomorrow” he said.
The story would be perfect if it ended there, wouldn’t it?
But the next day, when the miraculously supplied appliances were supposed to arrive, they didn’t come! There had been a mixup, and the appliances had been given to someone else! At this point I was like, “God, what are you doing? I thought you provided those for us! What are we gonna do?” Well, Saturday came and we said goodbye to our fridge & washer & dryer and frantically scanned ebay and prayed.
It wasn’t too hard to find a fridge on ebay, but most were $300-$400, and we only had a max of $100. Then there was the problem of finding one nearby, since don’t have the means to transport a large fridge a long way. Miraculously, we found a fridge just down the street, for only $100, and available on Sunday! Also miraculously, nobody else bid on it. We contacted the owner and planned to pick it up Sunday after church.
Then, Sunday morning at church I went to deliver some canned goods that our connect group had put together for the CityCare food bank. While I was standing there at the table, a man walked up right next to me and said in a loud voice, “We’ve been trying to give a washer away. Do you guys take washers?” to which they said no, and I said, “did you just say you have a washer to give? I’ve been praying for a washer!”
So in the end, within 1 day God provided a new fridge for only $100 AND a free washer. Even when people make mistakes carrying out the miracle, that doesn’t stop God from providing!
And as icing on the cake, the following week I found a great dryer on the side of the road right near my house!
Matthew 7:9 "Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!
